It was never meant to be easy to read.
How this chart is made
Your birth date is converted to the Chinese lunar calendar using your browser’s built-in calendar support. From the lunar month and birth hour we find your Life palace; from the year we find each palace’s heavenly stem and your five-element “bureau”; from the lunar day and bureau we place the Zi Wei star, and the other thirteen main stars follow fixed patterns from there. We also place four helper stars and the year’s four transformations, following the placement rules given in the classic text.
Schools of Zi Wei Dou Shu differ on details such as leap months and births near midnight. Here, a leap month counts as the same month for the first fifteen days and the next month after that, and the 23:00 hour belongs to the date you entered.
About the source
The classical passages on this page come from the Ziwei Doushu Quanshu (Complete Book of Purple Star Astrology), one of the most important and representative texts of the tradition. It is traditionally attributed to the Taoist scholar Chen Tuan, known as Master Xiyi, who lived between the Five Dynasties and the early Song dynasty. The text has long been in the public domain; we use the edition on Wikisource and quote it in the original Chinese. The English explanation under each passage is our own, for reference when reading your chart.
